Accessibility
Statement.

What we target, what already works, what doesn't yet, and how to tell us when something is in your way.

Conformance target

We build Atheneum toward WCAG 2.2 Level AA. That is a target we are actively working toward across the product, not a certification we have already earned — the honest status is in the sections below rather than a blanket claim of compliance.

What's already in place

  • A visible "Skip to main content" link at the top of every page for keyboard and screen-reader users.
  • Accessibility toggles in Settings — dyslexia-friendly font, reduced motion, and increased contrast — that apply across the whole workspace, not just one page.
  • Adjustable app-wide font size, saved per device.
  • Full light/dark theming with an explicit "match my OS" option.
  • Keyboard shortcuts and a command palette (Ctrl/Cmd+E) as an alternative to mouse navigation.
  • Semantic landmarks (nav, main, header) and aria-labels on icon-only controls throughout the shell.
  • Text meets the WCAG AA contrast minimum of 4.5:1 in both light and dark mode, checked against the theme colors themselves and on the rendered pages.
  • Form errors on sign-in, sign-up, password reset and Settings are tied to the field they are about, so a screen reader announces the error and reads it again when that field is focused.

Known gaps

What we haven't fixed yet.

Independent audit

Our checks are our own: an automated axe-core scan of the public pages (home, features, pricing, docs, about, guides, download, sign-in, sign-up, password reset and this page) in light and dark mode found no WCAG 2.2 AA violations, but automated tools catch only part of what matters. A third-party audit, a screen-reader pass with NVDA and VoiceOver, and the same checks across the signed-in workspace (Notebooks, Athena, Review, Pomodoro, calendar) are planned rather than done.

Reporting an issue

If any part of Atheneum is hard to use with assistive technology, email support@atheneum.app with the page, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology or browser you used. We reply to every report and prioritize fixes that block someone from using the product, not just cosmetic contrast issues.

Stated plainly

This statement describes our own internal review, not a third-party audit. We update it as gaps close or new ones are found — the date at the top always reflects the last honest review, not a target we are still working toward.
