Atheneum has a community Discord server for study groups, questions and help. You can connect your Discord account to Atheneum: you join the server and the Atheneum bot gives you roles that match your progress, like your tier and your study streak, and keeps them up to date. Connecting is optional, and you can disconnect at any time.

Connect your Discord account

  1. Open Settings → Connections.
  2. Next to Discord account, select Connect.
  3. Discord asks you to sign in and approve Atheneum, including joining the Atheneum server for you. Select Authorize.
  4. You come back to Settings, which says "Discord connected". If you weren't in the Atheneum server yet, you are now, and your roles are already there.

You can also start from Discord. In the Atheneum server, open the server menu, choose Linked Roles, and pick an Atheneum role. Discord sends you to Atheneum to sign in and connect; when it's done, go back to Discord and your roles update within a minute.

One Discord account can be connected to one Atheneum account at a time. If yours is already connected to another Atheneum account, Settings says so and nothing changes.

Roles from your progress

Once you're connected and in the server, the Atheneum bot gives you these roles itself. There's nothing to claim. You hold one role of each kind at a time, the highest you've reached:

  • Tier: Neófytos, Mathitís, Sofós or Olympíos, from your lifetime points;
  • Streak: 4-week streak, 12-week streak, 26-week streak or 52-week streak, once your weekly streak reaches it. A broken streak loses its role;
  • Supporter: while you subscribe to Pro or Max.

When you move up, the bot swaps the old role for the new one. It never touches roles it didn't give, such as ones a moderator gave you.

The server can also have Linked Roles, which Discord gives from these values when you claim them in the server menu:

  • Tier: your Atheneum tier, from 1 (Neófytos) to 4 (Olympíos);
  • Study streak: how many weeks in a row you've studied on at least one day;
  • Pro or Max: whether you subscribe;
  • Member for: how long you've had your Atheneum account.

Atheneum updates your roles and these values once a day. To update them now, for example after reaching a new tier, select Refresh next to Discord account in Settings.

AI credits for joining the server

You get 100 AI credits once you're a member of the Atheneum Discord server and your Discord account is connected. They go into the same balance as credit packs, so they don't expire. Connecting adds you to the server, so the credits usually arrive straight away. If you connected before Atheneum could add you, select Join the server, join, then come back and select Refresh. Leaving the server is up to you: the daily update never adds you back. The credits are paid once per Atheneum account and once per Discord account, so connecting the same Discord account to another Atheneum account doesn't pay again.

What's shared

Atheneum keeps your Discord user id and username, whether you're in the server, and the sign-in tokens Discord gives us, encrypted. It looks at the list of servers you're in only to see whether the Atheneum server is one of them, and doesn't keep that list. It uses your permission to join servers only once, when you connect, and only for the Atheneum server. Atheneum sends Discord your roles and the four values above, and nothing else: not your email, your notebooks, your files or your chats. Atheneum can't read your Discord messages or post as you.

Disconnect

Select Disconnect next to Discord account in Settings. The bot takes away the roles it gave you, Atheneum tells Discord to cancel its access (which also removes linked roles), and forgets your Discord account. You stay in the server unless you leave it. Points and AI credits you've already earned stay. You can also remove Atheneum from Discord under User Settings → Authorized Apps.

Troubleshooting

  • Settings says "Reconnect": Discord cancelled Atheneum's access, for example because you removed it in Discord. Select Reconnect.
  • My roles didn't change: select Refresh. If Settings says the bot couldn't give your roles, the problem is on the server's side and has been logged; tell a moderator. For linked roles, check the role's requirements with the server's moderators.
  • No credits after joining: make sure you joined with the same Discord account you connected, then select Refresh.
